# Add a competency evaluation

A competency evaluation groups the questions in your questionnaire by theme. You assign each question to one or more competencies, and the results are then shown per competency in the evaluation — for example as a radar chart.

:::info
The competency evaluation only works with closed questions (for example multiple-choice, rating, scale). Open questions such as text fields do not appear in the configuration area.

:::

## Open the configuration page

1. [Open the review settings](/en/c/feedbacks/open-settings)
2. Scroll to the **Potential Analysis** section
3. Click **Configure potential analysis**

4. Click **Show configuration** to expand the competency area

## Add a competency category

Competencies live inside competency categories. A category groups related competencies together (for example "Professional skills", "Social skills").

The first time you open the configuration, one empty category is already there. Add more categories with the green **Add competency category** button.

2. Click **Add competency**

1. Click **Choose questions** on the competency you want to configure
2. A dialog opens with all closed questions in the questionnaire
3. Tick the questions that belong to this competency
4. Click **Associate questions**

## Perspective weighting

When a review has more than one perspective (for example feedback recipient and supervisor), you can set how strongly each perspective counts toward the competency evaluation.

1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) of the category
2. Select **Perspective weighting**
3. Enter a weighting value for each perspective
4. Click **Save**

:::info
The **Perspective weighting** option only appears when the review has more than one perspective. It is not shown for one-sided reviews.

:::

## Save changes

:::info
Adding and deleting competencies and categories is saved immediately. The **Save** button inside a category applies to changes to the competency names.
