# User groups at a glance

User groups bundle employees into one unit, such as a department, a location, or your certified first aiders. Wherever easyreview asks for a set of people, you can pick the group instead of individual employees.

You find user groups in the sidebar under **Administration > User groups**. The area is available to administrators and employees with HR access.

## What user groups are used for

User groups appear in several places across the product:

- Show questionnaire questions only to certain groups ([Dynamic visibility](/en/c/feedbacks/dynamic-visibility))
- Send notifications to a specific group ([Recipients and assignment](/en/c/notifications/recipients-and-assignment))
- Filter the employee list by group membership
- Target agreements: assign templates and weightings per group

## The three kinds of user groups

The **Type** column in the overview shows what kind of group you are looking at.

**Manually managed**: You pick the members by hand and maintain the list yourself. This fits groups whose members share no common data attribute, such as first aiders or a project team.

**Filter-based**: Members follow from filters on employee data, for example "Department equals Sales". easyreview recalculates the members continuously. Whoever joins the department is in the group automatically, whoever leaves drops out. See [Change group filters](/en/c/general/change-group-filters) for how to adjust the filters.

**System groups**: easyreview maintains three groups on its own: **All Users**, **Supervisors**, and **Employees without managerial responsibilities**. There is nothing for you to do here. System groups cannot be edited or deleted, but you can use them anywhere user groups are offered.

## Which kind fits?

Is there a data attribute that connects the members (department, location, supervisor, or a custom field)? Then use a filter-based group, it maintains itself. If there is no such attribute, use a manually managed group.
