# Create and edit a notification rule

Want to set up an extra email, such as a third reminder or a copy to the supervisor? Or change an existing email? You do both in the [Notification Center](/en/c/notifications/notification-center) through notification rules. Each rule stands for one email with its own content, its own recipients and its own delivery time.

## Set up an extra email

1. Open the Notification Center and expand the notification type you want, e.g. "Invitation & reminders".
2. At the end of the rule list, click **"Add Notification"**.

The editor guides you through three steps:

1. **Content**: enter the subject and email text. Guide: [Design content and use placeholders](/en/c/notifications/content-and-placeholders)
2. **Recipients**: choose who receives the email. Guide: [Set recipients](/en/c/notifications/set-recipients)
3. **Settings**: give it a name, check the delivery time and save.

## Change an existing email

In the rule row, click **"Edit"**. The editor opens with the same three areas as tabs, which you can switch between freely. Save your changes with **"Save"**.

In the **Settings** tab you find:

* **Name of this notification rule**: the name is only for your own overview and is visible to administrators internally only. Recipients never see it.
* **Active**: switches the rule on or off.
* Depending on the type, also the **perspectives** selection and the **delivery** area. Both are explained in [Sending and reminders](/en/c/notifications/sending-and-reminders).

## Pause an email temporarily

You do not need to open the editor for this: the checkbox on the left of the rule row switches the rule directly on or off in the Notification Center. Deactivated rules send no emails but are kept and can be reactivated at any time.

## Delete a rule

1. In the Notification Center, open the dropdown menu to the right of "Edit".
2. Click **"Delete"**.

3. Confirm the dialog.

:::warning
Deleting cannot be undone. If you only want to pause a notification temporarily, deactivate the rule using the checkbox instead.
